Australia 2022

Summer 2022, during Covid

In the summer of 2022, we traveled to southeastern Australia during their winter off season. Our journey began outside of Melbourne in the beach town of Torque, which was amazing and easily the highlight of our trip, and ended in Sydney with a visit to the opera house and delicious dinners as we walked around the city.

Torquay

During the summer months (dec-feb) Torque is supposedly bustling with surfers and tourists (Torque is home to Bell’s Beach, a popular tour stop of the World Surfing League). but during the winter off-season months, Torque is absolutely wonderful. Sleepy and dead, with locals only and a chill vibe. The weather was cold, but not too cold (60’s?)—brisk enough to enjoy a winter hat but warm enough to sit outside and eat (this was the summer of 2022, on the tail end of the Covid pandemic).

The Twelve Apostles

Much to Nate’s dismay, we took a three hour drive from Torquay to see the Twelve Apostles. The drive was long but beautiful, hugging the southern coast of Australia we passed though several small, cute towns. We stopped and ate meat pies and played at one of our favorite playgrounds ever with a zip line that the boys absolutely loved.
